Nancy Calhoun

Nancy Marie Calhoun, lovingly known as Nancy Calhoun and affectionately called GanGan, passed away on July 25, 2026, in Fayetteville, Georgia, at the age of 87. Born on February 9, 1939, in Fort Meade, Florida, she lived a life marked by faith, devotion, and love for her family and church. She was a Christian woman whose days were guided by prayer, kindness, and a steadfast trust in God. Those who knew her will remember her as faith-filled and loving, with a gentle spirit and a heart that was always ready to serve others. Nancy was a devoted member of Dogwood Church, where her faith was evident in both word and action. She especially cherished her role as a Women’s Bible Study teacher, sharing her understanding of Scripture and encouraging others through her example. Her life was anchored in the promise of Exodus 34:10, which declared, “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people I will do wonders never before done in all the world.” That promise reflected the way she lived, with confidence in God’s goodness and a deep belief in His power to work in the lives of His people. One of Nancy’s greatest joys was caring for her family through the gift of cooking. She found happiness in preparing meals that brought everyone together around the table, where laughter, conversation, and love were shared freely. Her home and her kitchen were places of warmth, comfort, and welcome, and many cherished memories were made there. She understood that simple acts of service could speak volumes, and she offered those acts with grace and generosity. Nancy is survived by her eldest son, J. Brantley Calhoun, and his wife, Terri Calhoun, and her youngest son, J. Thad Calhoun, and his wife, Kim Calhoun. She is also survived by her brother, Bob Abbott and his wife Pam, three sister in-laws, Ann, Judy, and Sharon. Her cherished legacy lives on through her five grandchildren, Kattie Bailey and her husband, Calon Bailey, Karlie Calhoun, Ansley Calhoun, Garrett Calhoun, and Allie Calhoun. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Buddy Abbott, Donnie Abbott, and John Abbott. Her family will remember her for the strength of her faith, the tenderness of her love, and the steady presence she provided throughout her life. Nancy had a way of making others feel valued and cared for, and her influence will continue to be felt in the lives of those she leaves behind. Her example of devotion to God and family will remain a lasting source of comfort and inspiration. Though her earthly journey has ended, Nancy’s life continues to shine through the many people she touched. She leaves behind a legacy of Christian faith, loving service, and devotion to those nearest and dearest to her heart. Her memory will be treasured always, and her family and friends will carry forward the lessons of her life with gratitude and love. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville, with Pastor Hugh Kirby officiating. Nancy will be laid to rest at Mt. Elon Baptist Church Cemetery, Smith Creek, Florida. That service will be held on Saturday, August 1, 2026 at 10:00am. Young Family Funeral is assisting the family, Crawfordville 850-926-5919.
