Larry James Smith

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved family member- Larry James Smith aged 25 on April 20, 2024. Larry was known and loved by many friends and community members throughout his hometown and life-long resident of Crawfordville, Florida. Named after his late Papa- Larry was born December 29, 1998, and brought instant joy to our family. Being the youngest of five rambunctious siblings, Larry’s upbringing helped shape him into a very strong and resilient young man. Even from a young age, he was determined to lead a big life. While a student at Wakulla High, Larry was a determined scholar. He took schoolwork seriously and earned the love of many teachers with his joyous presence in the classroom. During his high school years, Larry excelled at the sport of wrestling, often gaining the admiration of even his toughest opponents, who would subsequently be cheering him on by the end of any tournament. Larry truly loved all of the friends and community that wrestling brought to his life. Once graduated, Larry attended Lively Tech where he earned a degree in welding. Like all other aspects of Larry’s life, he was a natural talent within his trade, earning accolades and building an impressive reputation for himself as an extremely skilled welder. Larry took after his dad, hitting the road and travelling all over the U.S. in his remaining years while working, making friends at every job site, and leaving a lasting impression with anyone who got to meet him. Above everything else in life, Larry’s greatest love was for his family. A self-proclaimed “Mama’s Boy”, Larry was our mother’s greatest protector and biggest fan. If you asked him who his best friend was, he would say “Justin”, his big brother. He loved visiting and playing with his big sister Jennifer, Brother-in-Law Earnie, and nieces Lily and Ella when he was home in Florida. During his travels he went north all the way to Maine to see his big sister Katie, Brother-in-Law Corey, and nephew Hayes. His big sister, Kara, had the pleasure of taking him whitewater rafting in North Carolina, where he made instant friends with all of her community too. Larry was greeted in heaven by his paternal Papa Larry and maternal Grandma Peggy. He is survived by his mother Colleen Smith, father Jeff Smith (Lynn), sister Jennifer Jackson (Earnie, Lily, Ella), brother Justin Rode, sister Katie Harding (Corey, Hayes, awaiting the arrival of baby girl), and sister Kara Smith. Larry also leaves behind his Granny, his many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins and a whole community of friends who will deeply miss our favorite guy. Services will be held Friday, April 26, 2024, at Family Funeral Home/Harvey Young Chapel in Crawfordville, Florida beginning at 11:00am. Family and friends will be accepted from 10:00am-11:00am for visitation. Flowers can be sent to Family Funeral Home in Crawfordville, Florida.
