Almyra “Myra” Vause Mathis August 19, 1936 - April 27, 2024 It is with earthly sadness and heavenly praise that we announce our Mother, Mother-In-Law, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great Great Grandmother Almyra “Myra” Vause Mathis ascended into Heaven at home with her loving family on April 27, 2024. Born to Claxton Vause, Sr and Marcia Grant Vause in Aaron, Florida on August 19, 1936, she was the middle child and first daughter. After graduating from Sopchoppy High School in 1954, she began her public service to the State of Florida where she devoted over 30 years. One of her greatest honors was to have served three (3) outstanding statesmen/legislators, their wives & families, and constituents: Representative Billy Joe Rish (Carol), Speaker/Representative James Harold Thompson (Carolyn), and Representative Robert Trammell (Kay). In the course of her work with the Florida Legislature, she served the citizens of Florida with the utmost skill, dignity, grace, and determination. At her retirement from the Legislature on December 31, 1993, it is estimated she helped 1000’s of people and will always be remembered and esteemed by those whose lives she touched. On earth she left her sons, Hoyle Lincoln “Linc” Mathis, Jr., and Joseph “Joe” Lamarr Mathis (Wendy); daughters Marcia Anna Mathis and Andrea Mathis Cayson (Sedita); 12 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; her brother Claxton Vause Jr. (Vonita); many nieces, nephews, their families, many cousins and people who called her “Mama Myra.” In heaven, she joins her husband of 62 years, Hoyle Lincoln “Buster” Mathis, Sr., her parents, Claxton Vause, Sr and Marcia Grant Vause, a brother Pleasant Grant Vause, her sister Sarah Elizabeth “Betsy” Vause, and a grandson Matthew Lincoln Mathis. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 29, 2024, from 4:00-6:00 pm at Family Funeral Home/Harvey Young Chapel. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, April 30,2024, 10:00 am at West Sopchoppy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Myra requested you give to the church of your choice.
