Dr. Roger Kent Hamilton

February 25, 1950 - January 10, 2022

Dr. Roger Kent Hamilton, better known as Kent, passed away peacefully at 6:51 am on Monday, January 10, 2022. He was 71 years old. Kent was born in Amarillo, Texas on February 25, 1950. His parents were Roger Dale Hamilton, a farmer and then a college professor, and Grace Venning Hamilton, a homemaker and then a nurse instructor. He is survived by his wife, Janice; his sister Jeanne Cottrell and husband Marc, brother Robert Hamilton and wife Margie; son Mark Hamilton (Zach), son Jonathan Hamilton and wife Deanna (Luke, Micah and Simon), daughter Mari Kimbrel and husband Chris (Megan and CJ), son Jason Hamilton and wife Jennifer (Jason Ian). Kent was preceded in death by his beloved grandson Christian Kent Hamilton. For his undergraduate degree, Kent attended Sterling College in Kansas where he met Janice Mary Raymo, who became his wife of almost 51 years. He loved her with everything he had. He taught high school history while coaching women’s basketball in Western Kansas. After obtaining a Masters in Special Education from Fort Hays State University, he moved to Tallahassee, FL where he later went on to receive a PhD in Special Education in 1983. He spent his career as a principal, assistant principal, and curriculum developer in Leon County Schools. Kent’s love of others was surpassed only by his love for Jesus. He served as an elder at Four Oaks Church for 26 years. His hobbies were watching Florida State basketball, jogging, listening to worship music, and traveling with his family. In 2008, he spent two weeks with his brother-in-law Reverend James Raymo on a mission trip to South Korea and Vietnam. This experience involved meeting and praying with church leaders, fueling his passion for missions. He was an outstanding father to his four children and an amazing “papa” to eight grandchildren. Most importantly, he has a personal relationship with Jesus, and he is now in Heaven experiencing the “eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison” (2 Corinthians 4:17-18). The memorial service will be held at Four Oaks Church on January 15, 2021 at 11am.
