September 15, 1948 - June 22, 2018
James William Haywood "Bud" Cates Bud died suddenly in his beloved Tallahassee home on June 22, 2018. He was born September 15, 1948 in Tallahassee. Bud cherished the woods, waters, and wildlife of North Florida and his family roots there. He was a certified wildlife biologist who served more than 30 years with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. He was most proud of his wildlife habitat restoration work in North and Central Florida. His pride and joy was his on-going longleaf pine forest restoration work on the Causseaux Legacy Farm in northern Wakulla County. And he was a die-hard U.F. Gator! Bud was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother who will be sorely missed by his family and close friends, and will be always in our hearts. Bud's Tallahassee roots include his mother, Sue Searcy Goldman; his father, William Haywood Cates, Jr.; and his grandparents, William "Bill" and Willie Blanche "Billie" Cates and Wayne and Kava Morgan Searcy. Memorial Service will be held Sunday, July 1st, at 3 pm at the Lodge at Ed Ball Wakulla Springs State Park.
