Burl David Vaughn

Burl David Vaughn, 79, of Panacea, Florida died at home Friday, February 17, 2017. He was born March 2, 1937 in Paris, Illinois and was a longtime resident of Wakulla County. He served as an Airman 3rd in the United States Air Force for 4 years (1955-1959). Burl owned & operated Vaughn’s Used Cars & Vaughns’s Paint & Body Shop in Panacea, Florida. He & his wife Helen were managers at The Salvation Army on South Monroe Street for several years and one year he served as the Chaplain. He and his wife owned the Family Thrift Store in Panacea, and he worked in the stump grinding business until he retired. He was elected as a Wakulla County Commissioner 1990-1994. He was instrumental at restoring Mineral Springs Park, where they installed playground equipment for the community and placed the large missile as a landmark. He was also very involved in receiving the funding to restore Otter Lake Park. He was always working to better his community. Burl’s wife remembers him as a “practical joker” with many stories to tell of there 55 years together. He is survived by his wife Helen Thompson Vaughn, 2 sons Michael Vaughn & David Vaughn (Tammy), 4 grandchildren Krista, Lorie, Taylor & Michael and 2 great grandchildren Charlie & Camden. Family will receive friends Friday, February 24, 2017, 2:00 pm at Family Funeral Home 84 Ochlockonee St. Crawfordville, with Funeral Service at 3:00 pm.
