Lloyd Ray Holtman

Lloyd Ray Holtman, 89, of Crawfordville, Florida, passed away, September 7, 2023. Lloyd was born June 16, 1934, in Quincy, Illinois. The only child of Doris (Merritt) and Milton Holtman. His parents proceeded him in death. After graduating from Quincy High School in 1952, he auditioned at the Great Lakes Naval Base for the Navy Music Program as a trumpet player. After acceptance he was sent to the Navy School of Music in Washington, D.C. Lloyd served 20 years as a trumpet player in various Navy Bands. In 1973, he retired after 20 years as a Musician First Class. Several highlights of his career while stationed in Hawaii included playing for the astronauts when they returned from the first trip to the moon. And also, being featured when the actual Navy Band played in the historic movie Tora, Tora, Tora and the story of the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Upon returning to Quincy, Illinois, following retirement from the Navy, Lloyd became owner of Holtman Interiors, an upholstering and decorating business that he operated from 1973-1995. His wife, Sharon P. (Clark), of 47 years predeceased by him. He married Janet (Barr) Hall of Hamilton, Illinois in 2009 and she survives. He is also survived by his children, James Holtman (Shelly), Robin Holtman (Jennifer), Heidi Leu & Kathryn Roderick (Hugh), grandchildren Joshua and Jeremy Holtman, Stuart (Leigh) and Spencer Roderick (Abbey), Emily Watkins (Jason), Megan Goslin (Jake), Carson Moran & Marissa, great grandchildren Austin, Chandler & Margaret Watkins, Eden Rose Goslin, Adlee Grace Moran & a grandson on the way, also his step-children, Richard Hall, Randy Hall (Sherry) & Lee Ann Korst (Bladon) and their children and grandchildren. A step-daughter, Rochelle Johnson predeceased him. Lloyd and Sharon were long time members of Vermont Street Methodist Church in Quincy, Illinois and he and Janet were members of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, Iowa, following their marriage. Upon relocating to Crawfordville, Florida in 2017, they became members of Ochlockonee Bay United Methodist Church, Panacea, Florida.
