John "Johnny" D. Fletcher

John David Fletcher took his last breath in this life and his first breath in glory on Wednesday, October 19, 2022. He was surrounded by family and loved ones in his home in Crawfordville, Florida. John “Johnny” was born on February 14, 1945, to George and Ethel Fletcher of Tifton, Georgia. He was a jack of all trades having the God-given talent to build or repair just about anything. As a young man one of his first jobs was working at Ford Motor Company. Being bright and naturally skilled, he quickly learned and understood the intricate workings of the automobile engine. He could take an engine completely apart and put it back together as a new and improved edition. However, he didn’t harness this talent as a career until later in life. He started out working at Centel Telecommunications Company, first as a mechanic, and then a cable splicer. There he met his loving wife of forty years, Mary Gates Fletcher. After working as a cable splicer for nearly twenty years, he decided to venture out on his own and became the proud business owner and chief operator of Wakulla Engines. For many years he kept the vehicles of Wakulla County running, and folks knew they could count on Johnny for an honest assessment and a job well done. During this time, he also established a side business, J & M Enterprises, which featured personal storage unit facilities. While actively pursuing his careers, he was also busy being a husband and father. His wisdom and life experience meant that he had so much to share, and his children loved to glean from his knowledge and guidance. He was a wonderful listener who never judged, and he loved his family unconditionally. Johnny captivated folks with his hilarious stories and jokes and had an uncanny ability to make people laugh. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and how he always brightened your day. Johnny was someone from whom you would desire to gain wisdom and advice when life presented you with an important decision to make. Though he could easily guide you on life decisions, if you asked him, he would undoubtedly tell you that the most important decision you could ever make in this life is the decision to follow Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Johnny was an active member of Cowboy Country Church and later attended Lake Ellen Baptist Church after Cowboy Church closed its barn doors. Johnny was an avid hunter, expert trapper, and fisherman, with a special affection for his hounds. He also had a love for gardening. Living off the land and providing for his family were two of his great passions. He was a talented builder and built three houses from the ground up, even clearing the land, harvesting the big pines, and milling the trees into lumber himself. He loved being busy, and his life was full. He used and enjoyed his God-given talents as long as his body physically allowed. Johnny was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ethel Fletcher, and his brother, Dale Fletcher. He is survived by his wife, Mary Fletcher; his brother, Joe Fletcher and his wife Katherine; his sister, Sue Owens; two sons, Bud Fletcher and his wife Sheree, and Jason Fletcher; two daughters, Melyssa Fletcher, and Shelly Alligood and her husband, Jason; his grandsons, Casey Miller and his wife Lauren, Richard Boatright, Gavin Alligood, and Bennett Alligood; great-grandchildren, Emma Miller, Ellie Miller, Silas Miller, and Evelyn Miller. The family will receive friends, Friday, November 4, 2022, 11:00 am-12:00 pm at Lake Ellen Baptist Church in Crawfordville, Florida, and the Memorial Service will begin at 12:00 pm.
