George Edwin Strickland

George Edwin Strickland, 86, of Sopchoppy died Saturday, September 17, 2022, at his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness. George was a native and lifelong resident of Sopchoppy, he was a member of Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church, retired from the State of Florida working in Finance and Accounting, graduated from Sopchoppy High School and Florida State University. George joined the United States Army in 1959 where he was a Medic, he was the founder of Sopchoppy Feed & Seed and the Sopchoppy Hardware. His greatest joy was the love for his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed his many friends, particularly the time spent fishing and hunting with them on the Ochlockonee and Sopchoppy Rivers. Not long ago he was recognized as the longest continuous Booster for the FSU Football team. George was preceded in death by his parents George H. and Eloise Kemp Strickland, sister JoAnn Edwards Catoe, brother Daniel L. Strickland and Grand Daughter Jordan Strickland. Survivors include his wife of 46 years Leona Strickland, five children George Scott Strickland and wife Lisa, Tannye Owens Rogers and husband Monroe, Stacey Strickland Visceglie and husband John, Beth Brown and husband Wade, and Daniel Nicholson Strickland and wife Emily; two sisters Sarah Strickland, Nena Anderson and husband Randy, two brothers, Malcom (Mo) Strickland and wife Rita, Robert Strickland and wife Regina; sister in law Sandra Strickland, brother in law Marshall Catoe; ten Grandchildren Sarah, Samantha, Aaron, Grant, Benjamin, Taylor, Emily, Caleb, Haley, Anna and ten Great Grandchildren. Visitation will be Monday, September 19, 2022, from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church and the Funeral Service will be Tuesday, September 20, 2022, at the church starting at 10:30 am and the burial will follow at the West Sopchoppy Cemetery. George was very involved in the Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church Backpack Ministry, which provides food to Medart Elementary families. Donations may be made in his memory. P.O.
