Donald George Edwards

Donald “Papa Don” George Edwards, 82, passed from this life into eternal life on Sunday, June 13, 2021 in his home in Sopchoppy, Florida surrounded by loved ones. He loved traveling with his wife. He was always the driver and took her to places she had never been and to visit family and friends. During these trips, just the two of them, they experienced new places, lived life, saw beautiful things and loved each other deeply. He loved talking with people especially about cars and was an avid racecar fan. Vintage cars were his passion and he and friends started a car club “The Forgotten Coast Street Machines” where car enthusiast could enjoy each other and each other’s project cars. However, nothing compared to his love for his own project build a 1949 Ford truck, that took seven years and help from many people. Don was a United States Airforce Veteran, a rear gunner in a military airplane during the Vietnam War and was proud to have served his country. Once, his car club came upon an unloved vintage mustang that belonged to one of the member’s grandson and banded together as a team to rebuild his car while he was deployed to Iraq. He enjoyed telling you stories about his life and you knew every word he told you was the truth. He enriched so many lives with his special ways and his mischievous smile. To know him, was to love him as the saying goes. Loving him was a simple thing, he had that way about him. He is preceded in death by his Mother Evelyn Lorraine, Father George Alfred and son Donald Gene Edwards. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Lelia Rose Edwards, his children Steve, Julie, Vince, Lydia, Wade, Suzanne, Christopher and Rachel, many grandchildren, great grandchildren and extended family. Don was a loving husband, father and friend to all. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 1 p.m. at the Sopchoppy School Gymnasium.
