Betty Jean Bryant

Betty Jean Bryant, born on January 16, 1943, passed away on May 14, 2023. She was 80 years old. Betty is the daughter of Caleb and Beatrice Owens of Jackson County Florida. She developed her work ethic amidst a large family (9 children) sharecropping in the dusty fields of North Florida, however the harsh conditions of her early life did not dampen her spirit or her love of life. Betty was a beloved mother, wife, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She was born and raised in Jackson County Florida and spent most of her early life there. Betty worked for many years with the Leon County School system, (When having lunch at school was cool!) where she made a positive impact on the lives of countless students and colleagues. Her dedication and hard work were an inspiration to all who knew her, and she was highly respected by her peers. Betty was a member of the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe of Whigham, Georgia. Her tribal name was Summer Wind. When she wasn't working, Betty loved to cook, especially Southern cuisine. Her meals were always a hit with family and friends, and her home was known for its warm and welcoming atmosphere. Betty was a true Southern lady who took pride in keeping her home spotless and welcoming to all who entered. Despite her many accomplishments, Betty's greatest gift was her sense of humor and her ability to make others laugh. She was a friend to all that she met, and her kindness and warmth were felt by all who knew her. Betty is preceded in death by her parents Caleb and Beatrice Owens and her siblings Russell Owens, Manzie Owens, John Owens, Eugene “Dena” Owens, Charles “Bud” Owens, Hazel Owens, Naomi Cloud and Maddie Lee Comerford. Betty is survived by her husband Bobby Bryant, son Gary (Michelle) Bryant, Brother-in-law Jeff Bryant, Sister-in-law Betty Shelton, 2 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Thursday May 18, 2023, at Immanuel Baptist Church, Tallahassee, FL. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM, with services following at 11:00 AM. Honorary Pall Bearers: Doris Carpenter, Helen Peters, Joann Synder, Sherrie Gibbs, Francis Peacock, Theresa Moon, Peggy Gilly. Contributions in Betty’s memory may be made to Big Bend Hospice or Alzheimer's Project, Inc.
