Virginia "Ginger" Joyce Graham Tillman

Virginia Joyce Graham "Ginger" Tillman, was born in 1938 in Valdosta, Georgia, the 2nd child of Roy and Evelyn Lewis Graham. She spent her early years in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and Jasper, Florida, before moving to Tallahassee, Florida, where she attended Florida State University Demonstration School. She graduated from Leon High School in 1956 and was "Leo the Lion" mascot one year. Ginger graduated from Florida State University in 1960. She was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and Gamma Alpha Chi Advertising Fraternity. Upon graduation her teaching career began in Jacksonville, Florida, as a Elementary Art Resource Teacher serving numerous schools. In 1961, Ginger married Thomas Britton Tillman at St. Clements Episcopal Chapel, Church of the Advent in Tallahassee. Settled in Tallahassee at this time, she taught Elementary School in Sopchoppy and later accepted a position at Rickards High School in Leon County, where she taught Art and American History. She sponsored the first yearbook and helped design the school's class ring. After taking some time off to raise her first son Britt, she later returned to as an Elementary Art Resource Teacher in Leon County for several schools. During this time, she became a member of Alpha Kappa, an international organization. Ginger taught at W.T. Moore school in Leon County. When the family decided to move to coastal Shell Point, she taught until 1995 at Crawfordville Elementary School, where she retired. She and her husband helped establish St. Teresa Episcopal Church in Wakulla. Ginger taught Sunday School for many years and was a member of the Altar Guild. She was a certified Lay Eucharist Minister of the Diocese of Florida. Ginger enjoyed painting and was a member of the Shell Point Art Group who supported the community actions. She and her husband were volunteer Firefighters at the ABVFD. Traveling with her husband to beautiful places to see new things, traveling with son's and wives on cruises, working out at the gym and line dancing at the Senior Center. She loved children, cats, chocolate and good humor. She always met you with a smile and Ginger loved her family and church. She will be remembered by her sons Dan Tillman and wife Ginger & Britt Tillman and wife Vicki, granddaughter Tylher Gainer and husband Tanner and great grandson Thomas Lane Gainer. Predeceased by her husband Tom Tillman and her grandson Taylor Tillman. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 23, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Family Funeral Home - Harvey Young Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Final Resting Place will be St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Cemetery.
